Terms of Use

In short

  • VocLock is free with ads; VocLock Pro is a subscription you buy and cancel in your app store.
  • Be kind to the people you connect with. We can remove names or accounts that break these rules.
  • The chat partner is an AI. It can be wrong; it's for practice, not a teacher.
  • Ideas and bug reports you send us, however you send them, we may use without paying or crediting you.
  • Your rights under consumer law always stay as they are.

1Who we are and what these terms cover

VocLock is provided by Said Erzhapov (contact details in the Impressum). These terms apply to using the VocLock app and its online features: the account, friends and partner, and the chat partner. How we handle your data is described in the privacy policy. By using VocLock you agree to these terms.

VocLock isn't directed at children under 13.

2The app

VocLock helps you learn words: on your lock screen, when you open apps, and in the app itself. The free version shows ads (never on the lock screen). We keep improving VocLock, so features can change; we may also change or end free features, for example if running them becomes too expensive. We won't take away a central part of Pro during a period you've paid for without letting you cancel.

VocLock's lock screen asks a question before you get to your phone. Your emergency PIN skips it right away, and you can stop the lock screen at any time by turning off VocLock's "Display over other apps" permission in your phone's settings or by uninstalling VocLock. Don't rely on VocLock where you need instant access to your phone.

3Your account

An account is optional. If you create one, use your own email address, keep your password to yourself and don't share the account. You can delete it in the app at any time (Settings → Account).

4VocLock Pro

  • Pro is a subscription sold through Google Play or the App Store. The price, any free trial and the billing period are shown there before you buy.
  • It renews automatically until you cancel it in your store account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Payment and refunds are handled by Google or Apple under their terms. Your statutory rights, including any right of withdrawal, are not affected.
  • We sometimes give Pro away for free for a set time. A gift ends on the date it was given for and gives no right to an extension; we can end it early if it's misused.

5Friends, partner and behaviour

People you connect with see your name, rank, streak and learning days. So please:

  • Use a name that isn't insulting, hateful, sexual or pretending to be someone else.
  • Don't harass anyone, and don't use nudges or requests to spam.
  • Don't try to get at other people's data, overload VocLock's servers or use VocLock in an automated way.

If someone breaks these rules, we can remove their name or connections, and in serious or repeated cases suspend or delete their account. Where it's reasonable, we warn first. You can always remove a connection yourself under Friends & partner.

6The AI chat partner (Pro)

  • Its messages are written by an AI model, not by a person. They can contain mistakes, odd sentences or wrong corrections. Use it to practise, not as your only source for how the language works, and not for advice of any kind.
  • Don't write personal details into the chat, and don't try to make it produce harmful or illegal content or anything other than everyday conversation.
  • There's a daily limit of messages. We may change the limit or the AI model behind the chat.

7Ideas, suggestions and bug reports

We love hearing from you. If you send us ideas, suggestions, feedback or bug reports, no matter how (in the app, by email, on social media or any other way), we may use, change and build them into VocLock freely and for good. You don't get any payment, share, reward or other compensation for it, and we don't have to name or credit you, also if we build exactly what you suggested. We don't have to use or answer every idea. Please only send ideas that you're allowed to share.

The news articles come from Wikipedia under CC BY-SA 4.0; other credits are listed under Licenses & Credits. Everything else in VocLock (word lists, example sentences, Tea episodes, design) belongs to VocLock. You may use it within the app for your own learning, but not copy or publish it elsewhere.

9Liability

We're liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence we're only liable if we breach an obligation that is essential for VocLock to work and that you can normally rely on, and then only for the damage typically foreseeable in such a case. VocLock can't guarantee that the app or its online features are always available.

10Ending

You can stop using VocLock at any time: delete your account in the app and uninstall it. Cancel a Pro subscription in your store account; deleting the app or account doesn't cancel it.

11Changes and applicable law

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you about important changes in the app before they apply. German law applies. If you live in another country as a consumer, the protective rules of your country's law still apply to you.
